Resists! A Vinyl, Paper, Wax and Latex Resist Workshop (3 hours)

In this workshop, we will explore different kinds of surface design techniques which involve using resists for color and shape blocking. We will learn to apply wax and rubber latex strategically, as well as using prepared vinyl and paper resists on prepared clay tiles to create dynamic surface decoration.

Participants will also be introduced to the Cameo Silhouette software interface to make their own resists in the future.

Participants are encouraged to email the instructor with a particular design or silhouette they’d like to use in their work prior to the workshop. This workshop is open to ceramic artists of all levels.

Materials:

All necessary materials and equipment, including slabs (1 greenware clay tile and 1 bisqued clay tile), slips, brushes, and finishing materials, will be provided for use during the workshop.

Participants are welcome to bring their own sketchbooks or design ideas for reference. Work produced will be fired and then glazed with a clear glaze after the workshop, and will be available for pick-up after 4-6 weeks.
